The Illinois Agreed Petition for Refund of Fees Collected is a petition created by the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOL) for taxpayers who believe they were incorrectly charged or overcharged on taxes and/or fees. This petition is used to request a refund from the state of Illinois for taxes and/or fees that were paid in error. It is a two-step process that requires the taxpayer to file the petition with the IDOL and then wait for a response from the department. There are two types of Illinois Agreed Petition for Refund of Fees Collected: (1) Refunds for taxes and fees collected on the Department’s behalf, and (2) Refunds for taxes and fees collected by the Department in error. When filing the petition, the taxpayer must provide the necessary documentation to support their claim and provide detailed information regarding the taxes and/or fees that were incorrectly charged. The IDOL will then review the petition and make a decision on whether to grant a refund.
