An Illinois Notice of Appeal is a legal document that is filed in the Circuit Court of the state of Illinois to begin the process of appealing a lower court’s decision. There are two types of Illinois Notice of Appeal: civil appeals and criminal appeals. In a civil appeal, the filing party can request an immediate review of the decision by the Appellate Court. In a criminal appeal, the filing party can petition the court for a new trial or a review of the case. The Notice of Appeal must include the name of the case, the court in which it originated, the date of the lower court’s decision, and the basis for the appeal. It must also include the name and address of the appellant, as well as the name and address of any other party involved in the appeal. The Notice of Appeal must be filed within thirty days of the lower court’s decision. Once it is filed, the court will assign the case to an appellate court judge and provide the parties with a hearing date.
