Illinois Appearance is the legal requirement of how a property must look in the state of Illinois. It is used to ensure that all properties are safe and habitable. This includes standards for the exterior of buildings, such as paint, siding, and roofing, as well as other outdoor features, such as fencing, trees, and shrubs. There are three main types of Illinois Appearance: Residential Appearance, Commercial Appearance, and Industrial Appearance. Residential Appearance covers single-family homes and small multi-family dwellings, and includes such requirements as exterior paint, handrails and stairways, and landscaping. Commercial Appearance covers businesses and office buildings, and includes such requirements as signage, lighting, and landscaping. Industrial Appearance covers industrial areas, such as factories and warehouses, and includes such requirements as fencing, lighting, and security.
