Illinois Employment Discrimination Complaint is a type of legal action that a person can take when they feel they have been discriminated against in the workplace due to their age, race, sex, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, military status, or any other legally protected characteristic. There are two types of Illinois Employment Discrimination Complaint: a charge filed with the Illinois Department of Human Rights (DHR) and a complaint filed in a court of law. With an DHR charge, an individual can request an investigation into the alleged discrimination and/or request damages or other remedies. A complaint filed in court can be used to seek monetary damages and other remedies such as injunctive relief. An employee who believes they have been a victim of discrimination must file a complaint within 180 days of the alleged incident.
