An Illinois Class S application is a type of application used to apply for a special type of driver's license that allows Illinois residents to operate a motor vehicle for recreational or commercial purposes. The Class S license is designed to be valid for driving any vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 20,001 pounds or more, as well as any vehicle towing a trailer that weighs 10,000 pounds or more. There are two types of Illinois Class S applications: the Standard Application and the Enhanced Application. The Standard Application is used to apply for a standard Class S license and can be completed online or by mail. The Enhanced Application is used to apply for an Enhanced Class S license and must be completed in person at a local Driver Services facility. Both applications require applicants to provide proof of identity, residency, and legal presence in the United States, as well as proof that they are medically qualified to operate a motor vehicle. Additionally, applicants must pass a written and road test before being issued a Class S license.
