Illinois Objection of Witness to Extended Media Coverage-English is a set of guidelines established by the Supreme Court of Illinois to limit the amount of media coverage of a witness in a criminal trial. This objection applies to any form of media, including television and radio broadcasts, live-streaming, photographs, and videos. The objection limits the media's ability to question, film, or photograph the witness and provides the witness with protection from having their testimony broadcast or recorded outside the courtroom. There are three types of Illinois Objection of Witness to Extended Media Coverage-English: 1) Limited Coverage — allows the media to cover the witness’ testimony, but prohibits them from filming or recording the witness; 2) Partial Coverage — allows the media to cover the witness’ testimony, but the media must obtain the court’s permission to film or record the witness; and 3) No Coverage — prohibits the media from covering the witness’ testimony in any form.
