The Illinois Verified Petition for Civil No Contact Order is a legal document filed in the Circuit Court of Illinois that requests a court order to prohibit contact between two parties. This petition is generally used in cases of domestic violence, harassment, stalking, or other abuse-related circumstances. The petitioner (the person filing the petition) must provide evidence of the behavior that necessitates the no-contact order. The Illinois Verified Petition for Civil No Contact Order can take two forms: an Emergency Order of Protection or an Interim Order of Protection. An Emergency Order of Protection is available to the petitioner without a hearing, and is effective for 21 days. An Interim Order of Protection requires a hearing, and is effective until the date of the hearing. Once the Petition has been filed, the respondent (the person against whom the petition is filed) must be served with papers in person. If this is not possible, the petitioner must make reasonable attempts to notify the respondent of the petition. Once served, the respondent has the right to contest the petition.
