Illinois Summons-Juvenile abuse & Neglect is a legal process that is initiated by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (CFS) when it has received a report of suspected abuse or neglect of a minor or any minor who is in need of services or protection. This summons is typically issued to the legal guardians of the minor in order to provide the court with a basis for determining whether abuse or neglect has occurred. In Illinois, there are two types of Illinois Summons-Juvenile abuse & Neglect: an Emergency Summons and a Non-Emergency Summons. An Emergency Summons is issued when the CFS has received a report of suspected abuse or neglect and the circumstances are considered to be life-threatening or imminent. A Non-Emergency Summons is issued when the CFS has received a report of suspected abuse or neglect and the circumstances are not considered to be life-threatening or imminent. The purpose of an Illinois Summons-Juvenile abuse & Neglect is to bring the parties together to ensure that the child’s safety and needs are met. The court will investigate the allegations and make a determination about whether the minor is in need of services or protection. Depending on the outcome, the court may take further action to protect the minor, such as ordering the removal of the minor from the home, or providing services to the family.
