The Kentucky Attorney Oath on Admission is an oath of office taken by any individual who has been admitted to the Kentucky Bar Association and is seeking to practice law in the state. The oath comprises several parts that include a statement of the attorney's commitment to uphold the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the laws of the state. It also includes an affirmation of the attorney's devotion to the law, a promise to never knowingly deceive the court, and an agreement to perform all duties as an attorney in a professional and ethical manner. There are two types of Kentucky Attorney Oath on Admission: the General Oath and the Special Oath. The General Oath applies to all attorneys admitted to the Kentucky Bar Association and is required for all attorneys to take prior to their admission. The Special Oath is taken only by attorneys who have been admitted to practice law in a special capacity, such as in a court of appeals or in a trial court.
