A Kentucky Criminal Complaint is a formal document that is filed in court to initiate a criminal case. It is a sworn statement by the complainant, usually the victim or a witness, that sets forth the facts of the alleged crime. It is the basis for the criminal charges that will be brought against the accused person. The complaint may include the name of the alleged offender, the offense that was committed, the date and location of the offense, and any related information. There are two types of Kentucky Criminal Complaints: an Information or an Indictment. An Information is a sworn statement by the prosecutor, which outlines the charges brought against the accused. An Indictment is a document issued by a grand jury which outlines the charges and formally accuses the accused person.
