Kentucky Average Weekly Wage Certification is a document issued by the Kentucky Department of Workers’ Claims that states the average weekly wage of a worker who has been injured in a work-related accident. This document is used to determine the amount of workers’ compensation benefits. There are two types of Kentucky Average Weekly Wage Certification: the Initial Average Weekly Wage Certification and the Final Average Weekly Wage Certification. The Initial Average Weekly Wage Certification is issued shortly after the accident and is based on the wages of the injured worker for the preceding 13 weeks. The Final Average Weekly Wage Certification is issued after the injured worker has reached Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI) and is based on the wages of the injured worker for the preceding 52 weeks. Both types of certification are needed to determine the level of workers’ compensation benefits.
