Description

Domestic Support Obligations

Louisiana Domestic Support Obligations (DSO's) are court-ordered payments of alimony, child support, or spousal support from one spouse to another. These payments are based on the income of both spouses, the number of children involved, and other factors. There are three types of DSO's in Louisiana: Permanent DSO's, Temporary DSO's, and Lump Sum DSO's. Permanent DSO are payments that are ordered to continue until the obligation is met in full. Temporary DSO are payments that are ordered for a specific period of time. Lump Sum DSO are payments that are ordered in one large payment. All payments must be made in accordance with the court’s order and must be paid on time. Failure to make payments could result in enforcement of the order by the court.
