The Louisiana CJA Panel Application is a form used to apply for membership in the Louisiana Criminal Justice Assistance Panel (LC JAP). This panel is responsible for reviewing and approving applications for funding from the federal Criminal Justice Act (CJA). The CJA provides funds for legal representation for indigent defendants in federal criminal cases. There are two types of Louisiana CJA Panel Applications. The first is the General Panel Application which is used to apply for membership to the LC JAP. The second is the Senior Panel Application which is used to apply for membership on the LC JAP Senior Panel. The Senior Panel is responsible for reviewing the more complex cases and provides funds for experienced attorneys. Each application requires the submission of legal and professional references, a personal statement, and a fee. All applications are reviewed by the Louisiana Supreme Court and a decision is made within 60 days of submission.
