Louisiana Certification of Attorney is a process that allows an attorney to receive recognition from the Louisiana Supreme Court for their expertise and knowledge in a specific field of law. Attorneys can be certified in the following areas: Civil Trial Law, Workers’ Compensation Law, Appellate Practice, Consumer and Commercial Law, Consumer Bankruptcy Law, Tax Law, Estate Planning and Administration Law, Admiralty and Maritime Law, and Social Security Disability Law. The Louisiana Certification of Attorney process is rigorous and includes a review of the attorney’s experience, knowledge, education, and skills; a written exam; and peer review. Those who are certified must demonstrate the highest level of integrity, professionalism, and competence in their field. Certification is valid for five years, after which the attorney must apply for recertification in order to maintain their certification status.
