The Massachusetts Notice of Appointment of Temporary Guardian-Conservator is a legal document issued by the court that appoints a temporary guardian and/or conservator for an individual who is incapacitated, either mentally or physically. The temporary guardian/conservator will be responsible for making decisions on behalf of the incapacitated person for a limited period of time, typically until a permanent guardian/conservator is appointed by the court. There are two types of Massachusetts Notice of Appointment of Temporary Guardian-Conservator: General Temporary Guardianship and Limited Guardianship. The General Temporary Guardianship is used when the incapacitated person is not able to care for themselves and requires a guardian to manage their personal affairs. The Limited Guardianship is used when the incapacitated person is able to care for themselves but needs assistance with certain decisions such as medical, financial, and legal matters. Both types of Notice of Appointment of Temporary Guardian-Conservator require the court to appoint a suitable temporary guardian/conservator and provide them with the authority to make decisions on the incapacitated person’s behalf.
