Instructions for State of Maryland Land Instrument Intake Sheet (IS) is a form used by Maryland state authorities to record the details of all land transactions in the state. It is used to document the transfer of title to real property, such as the sale of property, gift, transfer by inheritance, lease, or other conveyance. The IS must be filled out and signed by the person transferring title and the person receiving title. The form contains several sections which must be completed in order for the land instrument to be valid. The first section requires the names and addresses of the parties involved in the transaction. The next section requires the legal description of the property, such as the address, county, district, and parcel number. The third section requires the signature of the parties as well as the date of the transaction. The IS must be filed with the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation within 30 days of the transfer. Failure to do so can result in a penalty.
