Maryland Notice of Publication — Attachment Before Judgment is a legal document that is required by the Maryland courts in order to establish jurisdiction over a defendant who does not reside in the state. It is used to provide the defendant with notice of an impending lawsuit and to provide the plaintiff with the potential to attach the defendant’s property prior to a judgment. There are two types of Maryland Notice of Publication — Attachment Before Judgment: general notice and specific notice. General notice is used when the plaintiff does not know the whereabouts of the defendant and is typically published in a newspaper or other medium. Specific notice is used when the defendant’s whereabouts are known and involves personal service of the document on the defendant. Both types of Notice of Publication must include certain information, such as the names of the parties, the nature of the lawsuit, and the court in which the case is pending.
