Public Request for Records Stored at Maryland State Archives is a service offered by the State Archives which allows individuals to access records held in the Archives. Records stored at the Archives include historical documents, photographs, maps, audio, films, and digital records. There are two types of Public Request for Records Stored at Maryland State Archives: 1) Onsite Request and 2) Offsite Request. Onsite Request: This type of request allows individuals to visit the Archives and access records in person. Individuals must complete the appropriate request form and submit it to the Archives for processing. Once the request is approved, individuals can access records in the Archives’ reading room. Offsite Request: This type of request allows individuals to access records stored at the Archives without visiting the Archives in person. Individuals must complete the appropriate request form and submit it to the Archives for processing. Once the request is approved, the Archives will send digital copies or copies of physical records to the individual. In order to make a Public Request for Records Stored at Maryland State Archives, individuals must submit a completed request form to the Archives. The Archives staff will review the request and determine if it meets the requirements for access to records stored at the Archives.
