Maine Immigration Through Fraudulent Marriage, 8 U.S.C. Sec. 1325(c), is a form of immigration that allows foreign nationals to enter the United States by entering into a marriage with a United States citizen. It is also known as marriage fraud or sham marriage. The foreign national is allowed to obtain lawful permanent residence in the United States through a valid marriage to a U.S. citizen. The foreign national must establish a bona fide marital relationship with the U.S. citizen in order to obtain legal permanent residence. The foreign national must also meet certain eligibility requirements in order to qualify for the immigration benefit. There are two types of Maine Immigration Through Fraudulent Marriage, 8 U.S.C. Sec. 1325( c ): 1. Marriage Fraud — This type of marriage is where a foreign national enters into a marriage with a U.S. citizen solely for the purpose of obtaining a green card. 2. Sham Marriage — This type of marriage is where a foreign national enters into a marriage with a U.S. citizen solely for the purpose of immigration benefits.
