The Maine Certificate of Excuse is a document issued by the State of Maine to excuse an individual from jury service, military service or any other type of legal requirement. The Certificate is issued by the State of Maine Jury Services, and it is signed by the recipient's local Chief Jury Officer. There are two types of Maine Certificate of Excuse: 1) Jury Service Excuse Certificate and 2) Military Service Excuse Certificate. The Jury Service Excuse Certificate is issued for any reason, including illness, family obligations, travel commitments, or any other valid reason that prevents an individual from serving on a jury. The Military Service Excuse Certificate is issued to an individual who is exempt from military service due to physical or mental disability. Both types of Certificate of Excuse must be signed by the Chief Jury Officer and returned to the Jury Services.
