A Michigan Personal Protection Order (PPO) for Non-Domestic Sexual Assault is a court order that provides protection from sexual assault, harassment, stalking, and threats of physical or sexual harm. The order prohibits a person from engaging in specific acts and prohibits the person from entering the home, school, business, or place of employment of the victim. Additionally, the order may prohibit the person from contacting or communicating with the victim directly or indirectly. There are two types of Michigan Personal Protection Orders for Non-Domestic Sexual Assault: Emergency PPO's and Ex Parte PPO's. Emergency PPO's are issued on an emergency basis and are effective for up to 14 days. Ex Parte PPO's are initially issued when the court is not in session and are effective until a hearing can be held to determine if a longer-term PPO should be issued. If the court determines that a longer-term PPO is necessary, it can be issued for up to six months.
