Michigan Forest Township is a type of civil township located in Michigan, USA. It is a political subdivision of the state government and is governed by a board of supervisors. The township is responsible for providing local services such as road maintenance, public safety, garbage and recycling collection, and local government administration. Michigan Forest Townships come in three varieties: Charter Township, General Law Township, and Survey Township. Charter Townships, the most common type, are municipalities with powers and authority set forth in the Michigan Constitution. General Law Townships are formed from an act of the legislature and are subject to general laws of the state. Survey Townships are created by survey and are six miles square. All Michigan Forest Townships are represented by a board of trustees and are subject to the Michigan Open Meetings Act.
