Michigan Appearance of Attorney Or Guardian Ad Item Or Lawyer-Guardian Ad Item is a formal hearing process that is available in certain Michigan court proceedings involving minors. It is a process that provides a guardian ad item (also known as a lawyer-guardian ad item) to represent the interests of a minor in court proceedings. The guardian ad item is appointed by the court to act in the best interests of the minor and to ensure that their rights are respected. The guardian ad item is an attorney who is independent of both parties in the case and has a duty to represent the minor’s interests. In Michigan, there are two types of Appearance of Attorney Or Guardian Ad Item Or Lawyer-Guardian Ad Item: (1) Pro Bono Guardian Ad Item and (2) Formal Guardian Ad Item. In the Pro Bono Guardian Ad Item (PBL) process, the court will appoint an attorney to act as a guardian ad item for the minor, and the attorney will be paid for their services through a grant from the Michigan Bar Foundation. In the Formal Guardian Ad Item (AGL) process, the court will appoint an attorney to act as a guardian ad item for the minor, and the attorney will be paid for their services through a fee arrangement with the court. In both cases, the court will determine the amount of the fee. The guardian ad item is responsible for conducting an independent investigation into the facts of the case, making recommendations to the court, and providing a voice for the minor in the case. The guardian ad item is also responsible for ensuring that the minor’s rights are respected and that their best interests are taken into account.
