A Michigan Custody Order is a court-issued order that outlines the legal rights and responsibilities of the parents and/or guardians of a minor child. It includes provisions for legal custody (the right to make decisions about the child's education, health care, religious upbringing, etc.), physical custody (where the child resides and who has visitation rights) and parenting time (time each parent spends with the child) in the state of Michigan. There are two types of Michigan Custody Orders: sole and joint custody. In a sole custody arrangement, one parent is awarded primary physical custody and legal custody of the child, while the other parent is given visitation rights. In a joint custody arrangement, both parents share legal and physical custody of the child and have equal rights and responsibilities with regard to the child's care.
