Michigan Domestic Violence Screening For Referral To Mediation (DISARM) is a statewide program that seeks to provide victims of domestic violence with access to mediation services. DISARM is a voluntary program that helps victims of domestic violence obtain assistance in resolving conflicts in an amicable manner. It is designed to help victims of domestic violence access the mediation services they need to move forward with their lives in a safe and secure environment. The DISARM program consists of two distinct types of screening: telephone and in-person. During the telephone screening, a trained professional will evaluate the potential risks and safety concerns presented by the victim’s situation. If the potential risks and safety concerns are determined to be low, the victim will be referred to a local mediation program. During the in-person screening, the victim will meet with a mediator who will assess the victim's individual needs and provide the appropriate resources and referrals. The goal of the DISARM program is to create a safe and supportive environment for victims of domestic violence. The program helps to ensure that victims are able to access the necessary resources to safely resolve conflicts and move forward with their lives.
