The Michigan Petition to Discontinue Sex Offender Registration and Order is a legal document that allows an individual convicted of a sex crime in the state of Michigan to make a formal request to the court to be removed from the Sex Offender Registry and to be granted an Order of Discharge. The petition must be filed with the court in the county where the conviction occurred. The petitioner must be able to prove that they have completed any and all court-ordered treatment and/or supervision programs, have not committed any new criminal offenses within the last two years, and are not considered a danger to the community. If the court approves the petition, the individual will be removed from the Sex Offender Registry and granted an Order of Discharge. The two types of Michigan Petition to Discontinue Sex Offender Registration and Order are: (1) Petition to Discontinue Sex Offender Registration and Order of Discharge for Misdemeanor Convictions, and (2) Petition to Discontinue Sex Offender Registration and Order of Discharge for Felony Convictions.
