The Michigan Limited Guardianship Placement Plan (LGPL) is a program designed to provide individuals with a developmental disability the chance to live in their own home or apartment with the support of a limited guardian. It is an alternative to institutional living, allowing individuals to remain in the community and have more control over their lives. The LGPL offers two types of guardianship: 1. Plenary guardianship: This type of guardianship grants the guardian full control over the individual’s personal and financial affairs. 2. Limited guardianship: This type of guardianship grants the guardian control over specific areas of the individual’s life, such as healthcare decisions, residential placement, and financial matters. The LGPL also provides support services to individuals, including case management, assistance in finding suitable housing, and finding and training a guardian. It is designed to help people with developmental disabilities lead more independent lives in the community.
