Michigan Request for Confidentiality is a process that allows individuals to request that their name and/or other identifying information be withheld from public records. This process is available for Michigan residents who are the victims of certain crimes, including rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking. Requests can be made through the Michigan State Police, county clerks, or local law enforcement agencies. There are two types of Michigan Request for Confidentiality: Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) and Name Change Program (NCP). The ACP allows individuals to have their address and other identifying information (e.g., name, date of birth, and Social Security number) withheld from public records. The NCP allows individuals to change their name and receive a confidential address. Both of these programs provide victims of crime with the protection they need to maintain their safety and security.
