Michigan Letters of Juvenile Guardianship are legal documents that grant an adult legal guardianship over a minor child. The guardianship is recognized by the state of Michigan and gives the adult legal authority over the child and their care. It is legally binding and provides the legal guardian with the right to make decisions regarding the child's health, education, and welfare. There are two different types of Michigan Letters of Juvenile Guardianship: temporary and permanent. Temporary guardianship is granted when the child's parent(s) are temporarily unable to care for the child, and allows the guardian to make decisions regarding the child's care and welfare until the parent(s) are able to resume their duties. Permanent guardianship is granted when the parent(s) are unable to care for the child permanently, and allows the guardian to make decisions regarding the child's care and welfare until the child is an adult.
