Michigan Participating Agreements are agreements between two or more parties that allow for participants to share in the cost and benefits of a project. These agreements are used for public and private projects that involve multiple parties and are typically used for infrastructure projects, including road and bridge construction. There are four main types of Michigan Participating Agreements: Design/Build, Design/Bid/Build, Construction Manager/General Contractor, and Construction Manager-at-Risk. Design/Build Agreements involve the design and construction of a project by a single entity. Design/Bid/Build agreements involve the design of the project by one entity, followed by the bidding of the project to multiple construction contractors. Construction Manager/General Contractor Agreements involve a construction manager overseeing the project and general contractors building the project. Construction Manager-at-Risk Agreements involve the construction manager taking on some risks of the project by assuming responsibility for the cost of the project and ensuring completion of the project.
