The Michigan Order Regarding Foreign Travel (MORT) is an executive order issued by the Governor of Michigan that restricts foreign travel for Michigan residents and public officials. The order applies to all travel originating from or returning to Michigan, regardless of the purpose of the trip. It is designed to reduce the risk of introducing Covid-19 into the state and to protect Michigan residents from the potential risk of international travel. The MORT requires Michigan residents, and public officials, to obtain approval from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MD HHS) before traveling internationally. Depending on the type of trip and the reason for travel, individuals may need to self-quarantine for 14 days upon returning to Michigan. The MD HHS will determine the length of quarantine based on the type of travel, the individual's health status, and the country/region of travel. The MORT consists of three types of orders: 1. The Limited Travel Order: This order applies to Michigan residents and public officials who are traveling for business, educational, or medical purposes. Individuals must obtain approval from the MD HHS before traveling and must follow all the necessary safety protocols upon returning to Michigan. 2. The Discretionary Travel Order: This order applies to Michigan residents and public officials who are traveling for leisure purposes. Individuals must obtain approval from the MD HHS before traveling and must follow all the necessary safety protocols upon returning to Michigan. 3. The Mandatory Travel Order: This order applies to Michigan residents and public officials who are traveling for any purpose without prior approval from the MD HHS. Individuals must self-quarantine for 14 days upon returning to Michigan.
