The Minnesota Retraining Plan is a program offered by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) that provides financial assistance to help unemployed workers acquire new skills that will lead to higher-paying jobs. It is designed to provide an opportunity for individuals to gain new skills and re-enter the job market with better employment opportunities. The Minnesota Retraining Plan offers two types of training: On-the-Job Training (OUT) and Customized Training (CT). On-the-Job Training (OUT) is a program that provides unemployed workers with wages, job training, and related benefits while they are employed in a new job. The employer pays the employee a wage and DEED reimburses the employer for a portion of the cost of training. Customized Training (CT) is a program that provides unemployed workers with training at an approved educational institution such as a college or technical school. The Minnesota Retraining Plan pays for the cost of tuition, books, and other related expenses. Both the On-the-Job Training and Customized Training programs are designed to help unemployed workers upgrade their skills and improve their job prospects. The Minnesota Retraining Plan is open to individuals who have been laid off or are facing a layoff due to reasons other than their own fault, and are eligible for unemployment insurance benefits.
