Missouri Report Unemployment Insurance (UI) Fraud is a type of financial crime in which an individual or business deliberately misrepresents or conceals information in order to receive benefits from the state’s unemployment insurance program. This can include misrepresenting income, work history, or claiming benefits while still employed. UI Fraud can also include identity theft, creating fictitious employers, or filing multiple claims. The Missouri Department of Labor & Industrial Relations investigates all reported UI Fraud and aggressively prosecutes those found guilty. There are three main types of Missouri Report Unemployment Insurance (UI) Fraud: 1) Employer Fraud, 2) Claimant Fraud, and 3) Third Party Fraud. Employer Fraud occurs when an employer misrepresents information on an employee's application or fails to report wages or other payments to the state. Claimant Fraud occurs when a claimant intentionally misrepresents or conceals information in order to receive UI benefits. Third Party Fraud occurs when someone other than an employee or claimant misrepresents or conceals information in order to receive UI benefits.
