The Mississippi Advance Health Care Directive is a legal document that allows individuals to plan and express their wishes for medical care in the event they become unable to make decisions due to an incapacitating condition or illness. It allows individuals to appoint an agent to make health care decisions on their behalf, and to provide guidance to health care providers and family members regarding the type of care they wish to receive. There are two types of Mississippi Advance Health Care Directive: the Living Will and the Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care. The Living Will outlines specific instructions for health care providers regarding the type of medical care an individual wishes to receive, including the use of life-sustaining treatments. The Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care enables individuals to appoint an agent to make medical decisions on their behalf if they are unable to do so.
