The Mississippi Certification of Exigent Circumstances is a process that allows certain individuals to bypass the normal Mississippi state certification requirements in order to gain employment in an educational setting. The process is designed to help expedite the certification of qualified professionals in order to fill critical teaching positions in Mississippi school districts. There are two types of Mississippi Certification of Exigent Circumstances: Emergency Certification and Temporary Certification. Emergency Certification is a process that allows individuals to become certified on an emergency basis in order to fill immediate vacancies in a school district. This certification is valid for up to one year and can only be renewed upon successful completion of a Mississippi Department of Education approved program. Temporary Certification is a process that allows individuals to be certified on a more long-term basis. This certification is valid for up to three years and can be renewed upon successful completion of a Mississippi Department of Education approved program.
