Montana Petition Instructions are the guidelines that must be followed when submitting a petition to the Montana state government. There are three main types of Montana Petition Instructions: Initiated Statute Petitions, Referendum Petitions, and Initiative Petitions. Initiated Statute Petitions are used to propose a change in an existing Montana state law or to create a new one. These petitions must include a draft of the proposed statute, the signatures of at least 5% of the state’s registered voters, and a fee of $500. Referendum Petitions are used to challenge a recently enacted law. These petitions must include the signatures of at least 10% of the state’s registered voters, and a fee of $500. Initiative Petitions are used to propose a new Montana state law or to change an existing one. These petitions must include a draft of the proposed statute, the signatures of at least 10% of the state’s registered voters, and a fee of $500. In addition to the requirements listed above, all Montana Petition Instructions require that the petition be signed by the petitioner and notarized by a Montana notary public and include a cover letter that includes the petitioner’s name, address, and contact information.
