Nebraska Senior Law Student Appearance and Client Consent is a process developed by the Nebraska Supreme Court to ensure that lawyers-in-training are properly trained in the fundamentals of law before they are allowed to represent clients in court. This process involves a written application from a law student, a waiver of appearance by the client, a supervised appearance in court by the student, and a consent form signed by the client. There are two types of Nebraska Senior Law Student Appearance and Client Consent: Direct Appearance and Limited Appearance. In a Direct Appearance, the law student is allowed to represent the client in court, as long as the client is present. In a Limited Appearance, the law student is only allowed to represent the client in a limited capacity, such as in an administrative hearing or in a mediation. In both cases, the law student must be supervised by a licensed attorney. The Nebraska Supreme Court also requires that the client be fully informed of the law student’s role in the case, including the extent of the student’s representation and the limitations of their role.
