Nebraska Acceptance of Intrastate Transfer (WAIT) is an agreement between the Nebraska Department of Education and Nebraska school districts that allows students to transfer from one school district to another within the state without having to repeat courses. The agreement allows students to receive credit for classes taken in their home district that are considered equivalent to classes offered in the receiving district. This agreement applies to public school students in grades K-12. WAIT consists of two separate agreements: the General Agreement and the Special Agreement. The General Agreement applies to all standard courses, which are defined as courses that are part of the Nebraska State Content Standards and the Nebraska State Assessment System. Under the General Agreement, students who transfer between districts may receive credit for courses taken at their home district as long as those courses meet the standards of the receiving district. The Special Agreement applies to courses not covered by the General Agreement. This includes courses such as foreign languages, physical education, and art. Under the Special Agreement, students can receive credit for courses taken at their home district as long as those courses are approved by the receiving district. WAIT is designed to provide students with a more seamless transition between districts, allowing them to move without having to worry about repeating courses or losing credit. The agreement also ensures that Nebraska students have access to a consistent, high-quality education across the state.
