What is the unauthorized practice of law? A person who provides legal services, who is not a licensed lawyer, or who is not otherwise authorized by law to provide legal services, may be engaging in the unauthorized practice of law (UPL). In Nebraska UPL is a crime.

Another example of unlawful practice of law would be if someone, other than an attorney, was drafting or creating legal documents. Only attorneys who have a license or bar admission are authorized to create legal documents.

What happens if someone engages in the unauthorized practice of law? It is a felony crime in Texas to falsely claim to be a lawyer.
