A Nebraska Order for Continuance is a court order granting a postponement of a legal proceeding. This order is used to delay a trial, hearing or any other court process. In Nebraska, there are two types of Order for Continuance: 1) General Order for Continuance and 2) Specific Order for Continuance. A General Order for Continuance is a general motion to suspend all legal proceedings in a case for a specified length of time. This order does not require the other party’s approval and is usually granted to allow for further preparation of the case. A Specific Order for Continuance is a motion to suspend a specific hearing, trial or process in a case for a specified length of time. This order requires the approval of the other party and is usually used when a party needs additional time to prepare for an upcoming hearing or trial.
