A New Hampshire Parenting Petition (Joint) is a legal document that is filed in the New Hampshire Family Division of the Superior Court. It is used to establish parentage, parental rights and responsibilities, and other related matters (such as child support and custody) between unmarried parents. There are three types of New Hampshire Parenting Petition (Joint): Voluntary Acknowledgment of Parentage, Agreement of Parentage, and Non-parental Custody. The Voluntary Acknowledgment of Parentage is used by both parents to establish legal parentage of a child. This document is filed with the Vital Records office and is the only document needed to establish parentage. The Agreement of Parentage is used when both parents agree to have legal parentage of a child, but also agree to the terms of child support, custody, visitation, and other related matters. This document is filed with the Family Division of the Superior Court. The Non-parental Custody Petition is used when a third party, such as a grandparent, aunt, or uncle, is seeking custody of a child. This document is also filed with the Family Division of the Superior Court. These New Hampshire Parenting Petitions (Joint) are designed to protect the child and parents' rights, ensure the best interests of the child, and provide legal recognition of parentage.
