The New Jersey Certification of Repair and Plea of Guilty is a process that allows a person to plead guilty to a motor vehicle violation and have the ticket dismissed upon completion of a court-mandated remedial program. This process requires the defendant to repair the motor vehicle violation by taking a driver improvement program, attending a defensive driving class, or performing community service. Upon completion of the remedial program, the defendant must pay a fine and the ticket will be dismissed. There are two types of New Jersey Certification of Repair and Plea of Guilty: the original Certification of Repair and Plea of Guilty and the Advanced Certification of Repair and Plea of Guilty. The original Certification of Repair and Plea of Guilty is available to first-time offenders who have not been convicted of any other motor vehicle violations in the past three years. The Advanced Certification of Repair and Plea of Guilty is available to individuals who have previously been granted a Certification of Repair and Plea of Guilty and have not committed any other motor vehicle violations in the past three years. Both types of Certifications require the defendant to take a driver improvement program, attend a defensive driving class, or perform community service in order to repair the motor vehicle violation. Upon completion of the remedial program, the defendant must pay a fine and the ticket will be dismissed.
