New Jersey IFSA (Uniform Interstate Family Support Act) is a law that enables one state to request and receive child support orders from another state. This law allows states to establish, enforce and modify child support orders that have been issued in another state. It also provides a procedure for enforcing those orders. The New Jersey IFSA includes three types of petitions: an Income Withholding Petition, an Order to Show Cause Petition, and a Petition to Register an Out-of-State Support Order. The Income Withholding Petition is used to request that the out-of-state court require the noncustodial parent to have their wages garnished to pay for child support. The Order to Show Cause Petition is used to ask the out-of-state court to make a decision on a child support issue. The Petition to Register an Out-of-State Support Order is used to register an out-of-state support order in New Jersey.
