The New Jersey Certification of Non-Military Service is a process for individuals who have never served in the US military to obtain a certification proving their non-military service. This process is required for certain New Jersey state benefits or programs, including the New Jersey Veterans' Property Tax Deduction and the New Jersey Veterans' Preference in Employment. There are two types of New Jersey Certification of Non-Military Service: Standard Certification and Expedited Certification. Standard Certification requires the applicant to provide evidence of non-military service, such as a letter from an employer or a copy of a passport, and submit the application to the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. Expedited Certification is available only for those applicants who are over the age of 65 and who have lived in New Jersey for at least ten years. This certification requires the applicant to provide proof of age and residency, and submit the application to the same department.
