New Jersey How to Apply for Foreclosure Mediation is a program that offers homeowners facing foreclosure the opportunity to resolve disputes with their mortgage lenders outside of court. The program provides access to experienced mediators who can help homeowners and lenders come to an agreement on loan modifications, repayment plans, or other alternatives to foreclosure. Homeowners may apply for Foreclosure Mediation by completing an application with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA). There are currently two types of New Jersey How to Apply for Foreclosure Mediation available: voluntary mediation, which is requested by the lender, and court-ordered mediation, which is ordered by the court. To apply for voluntary mediation, homeowners must submit a completed application form, a financial statement, and any supporting documents to the DCA. For court-ordered mediation, homeowners must file a motion with the court and provide any supporting documents. In both cases, the DCA will assign a mediator who will meet with both parties to try to reach an agreement. Homeowners are urged to seek legal advice throughout the mediation process.
