The New Jersey Termination of Appointment of Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) / Change in Volunteer is the process in which a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer’s appointment is ended or changed. CASA volunteers are appointed by courts to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are involved in court proceedings. There are two types of New Jersey Termination of Appointment of Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) / Change in Volunteer: voluntary termination and involuntary termination. Voluntary termination occurs when the CASA volunteer initiates the process and submits a written request for termination to the court and the CASA program. The request must be approved by the court. Once approved, the volunteer will be removed from the CASA program and their CASA appointment will be terminated. Involuntary termination occurs when the court, the prosecutor or the CASA program initiates the process and submits a written request for termination to the court. The request must also be approved by the court. If approved, the CASA volunteer will be removed from the program and their CASA appointment will be terminated. In either case, the CASA program will provide the volunteer with written notification of the termination. The CASA program will also provide the volunteer with a copy of their termination letter and any other relevant documents.
