The New Jersey Application to Take Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) is an online program designed to assess the English-speaking proficiency of non-native speakers of English. The program consists of two parts: the computer adaptive test (CAT) and the live oral proficiency interview (OPI). The CAT is a computer-based test which evaluates a person's English language skills through a series of multiple-choice questions. The OPI is a live, one-on-one conversation between the test-taker and an interviewer. It is used to assess speaking proficiency in a more realistic context. The New Jersey Application to Take Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) is available in two versions: the English Language Learner version (ELL) and the Standard version. The ELL version is designed for test-takers who are learning English as a second language and provides a more tailored assessment of their language skills. The Standard version is designed for test-takers who have a basic knowledge of English and is used to assess their speaking proficiency. Both versions are administered by certified testers in an online environment.
