New Jersey Request for Records Inspection is a process whereby individuals or organizations can request to view or receive a copy of public records maintained by state or local government agencies. This process is outlined in the New Jersey Open Public Records Act (OPERA) and administered by the Government Records Council. There are two types of New Jersey Request for Records Inspection: 1. Request to Inspect: A request to inspect public records allows individuals to view records without receiving copies of the documents. 2. Request to Copy: A request to copy public records allows individuals to receive copies of the documents. In order to make a request for records inspection, the requestor must submit a written request to the custodian of the records. The request must include the name of the records' custodian, the name and address of the requestor, a description of the records sought, and the method of access or delivery requested. The custodian must respond to the request within seven business days.
