New Jersey Order For Total Disability (NJ OFT) is a type of court order issued by a judge in the state of New Jersey, which recognizes a person as being totally disabled and unable to work. This order grants an individual certain privileges, including the right to receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SDI) benefits and other forms of financial assistance. The Order is available to individuals who can demonstrate that their physical or mental impairment has made them unable to engage in any gainful employment for at least twelve consecutive months. There are two types of NJ OFT: Total and Permanent Disability (TED) and Partial and Temporary Disability (LTD). TED is typically awarded to individuals who are permanently and totally disabled, while LTD is awarded to those who are partially and temporarily disabled, and may be subject to review or modification at a later date. The Order is typically issued by a judge in a court of law, but may also be issued by an administrative law judge or a medical review officer. Once the NJ OFT is issued, the individual may be eligible for certain benefits and services, including Social Security Disability Insurance (SDI) benefits, Medicare, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and other forms of financial or medical assistance. The Order may also entitle the individual to other protections, such as the right to legal representation or the right to appeal a decision.
