The New Mexico Joint Waiver of Disqualification (NM JWD) is a program offered by the New Mexico Department of Health to assist individuals with certain disabilities access Medicaid services. The program waives certain restrictions that would otherwise deny them access to Medicaid services, allowing them to receive a more comprehensive range of services to meet their needs. There are two types of New Mexico Joint Waiver of Disqualification available: the Traditional NM JWD and the Managed Care NM JWD. The Traditional NM JWD allows people to receive certain services that are not covered by Medicaid. The Managed Care NM JWD allows people to receive a range of services, including primary care, emergency care, inpatient care, and behavioral health services. To qualify for the New Mexico Joint Waiver of Disqualification program, individuals must have a physical or mental disability, meet certain income and asset requirements, have a Medicaid spend-down, and be a resident of New Mexico. Additionally, they must complete an application process that includes an assessment of their current medical and mental health needs. Once approved, the waiver provides individuals access to services that are not otherwise available through Medicaid, such as day behavioral health services, in-home supports, and respite care. It also provides case management services to help individuals access the services they need.
